소네트(Sonnet) 15

- 셰익스피어(Shakespeare)

모든 성장하는 것은 무엇이든 찰나의 순간만 

그 완전성을 유지하는 것을 생각하면

이 세상 거대한 무대는 다만 하나의 쇼일 뿐이다

별들이 은밀히 영향력을 행사하는

인간도 식물이 성장하는 것과 같아

같은 하늘이 북돋아주기도 하고 뒤엎어버리기도 하니

젊음의 혈기를 뽐내다가도 절정에 이르면 시들어

그 찬란했던 순간도 기억 속에서 잊혀진다

이 무상한 변화를 보며 나는 눈앞에 

가장 풍요로운 젊음을 누리는 당신을 떠올려 본다

그곳에서 파괴자 시간은 쇠락과 서로 논쟁하며

당신 청춘의 낮을 타락한 밤으로 몰아넣고 있다

당신을 사랑하기에 나는 시간과 전쟁을 벌이려 한다

그가 당신을 앗아가면 나는 시를 써 당신을 새순에 접목할 것이다

 

When I consider every thing that grows

Holds in perfection but a little moment;

That this huge stage presenteth nought but shows

Whereon the stars in secret influence comment;

When I perceive that men as plants increase,

Cheered and checked ev'n by the self-same sky,

Vaunt in their youthful sap, at height decrease,

And wear their brave state out of memory;

Then the conceit of this inconstant stay

Sets you, most rich in youth, before my sight,

Where wasteful time debateth with decay,

To change your day of youth to sullied night;

  And all in war with time for love of you,

  As he takes from you, I engraft you new.
