내 연인의 눈은 태양처럼 빛나지도 않으며

입술은 산호처럼 붉지도 않고

가슴은 눈처럼 희지않고 거무죽죽하며

남들의 머리가 금실이라면 그녀의 머리는 검은 실이다

나는 붉고도 흰 장미는 본 적 있지만

그녀의 뺨에서 그런 장미를 본 적은 없고

그녀가 내뿜는 숨결에서 보다는

향수의 향기들에서 더 많은 기쁨을 얻는다 

나는 그녀의 음성을 사랑하지만

음악이 훨씬 듣기 즐겁다는 것을 알고 있으며

여신은 땅을 밟는 일이 없다는데

나의 여신 그녀는 씩씩하게 땅바닥을 걷는다

그러나, 결단코, 내 연인은 그 누구보다 특별하다

특히 터무니없이 칭송되어 그녀와 비교되는 다른 여자들보다

My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun;

Coral is far more red than her lips' red;

If snow be white, why then her breasts are dun;

If hairs be wires, black wires grow on her head;

I have seen roses damasked, red and white,

But no such roses see I in her cheeks;

And in some pérfumes is there more delight

Than in the breath that from my mistress reeks.

I love to hear her speak, yet well I know

That music hath a far more pleasing sound.

I grant I never saw a goddess go;

My mistress, when she walks, treads on the ground.

  And yet, by heaven, I think my love as rare

  As any she belied with false compare.
